5 Seconds of Summer has to be one of the best exports that Australia has given the music industry. The band, often abbreviated as 5SOS, formed in 2011 and created a unique sound incorporating pop and rock themes, which fans have absolutely fallen in love with.
The group is made up of Luke Hemmings (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Michael Clifford (lead guitar), Calum Hood (bass), and Ashton Irwin (drummer). Their journey began as YouTube celebrities, but they broke out into the international music scene when they toured with One Direction in 2014.
At the beginning of 2014, the band set up a record label on their own called Hi or Hey Records, which released their first three albums, 2014's 5 Seconds of Summer, 2015's Sounds Good Feels Good, and 2018's Youngblood. During the same year, they released the song “She Looks So Perfect,” their first single debut with a major record label, which became a huge commercial success and charted in four different countries.
The band became the first Australian group to achieve three number one albums on the Billboard 200 list, and combined, they have sold over 2 million concert tickets, gained more than 7 billion streams, and sold over 10 million albums. They even have a mantle full of awards and accolades that include, five ARIA awards, three APRA awards, a ridiculously good ten MTV European Music Awards, and two MTV Video Music Awards, just to name a few.
With a profile that huge, you know these guys really know how to entertain, and their upcoming tour is going to be crazy good! In addition to their new tour, they are also releasing a brand new album, called "The Felling of Falling Upwards," at London's Royal Albert Hall," which features reimagined songs from their 11 year history of making music.
