The Houston Symphony is a top-class orchestra that traces its roots as far back as 1913. Founded by the great philanthropist Ima Hogg, it began performing with 35 musicians. Under conductors Julien Paul Blitz and Paul Bergé, the orchestra enjoyed great success for five years until financial difficulties led to its sad demise. But the orchestra was spectacularly resurrected back to life in 1930, and by the mid-1930s, it was officially named the Houston Symphony. In the subsequent decades, the Houston Symphony has undergone substantial growth and a huge success thanks to eminent music directors such as Ernst Hoffmann, Leopold Stokowski, and Hans Graf. Juraj ValĨuha, the illustrious conductor from Slovakia, currently occupies the position. The Houston Symphony is easily recognized as one of the world's leading orchestras.
The Houston Symphony actively seeks to welcome everybody to the delights of classical music. Regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability, and age, the door is wide open. Part of the mission is to provide free concerts to encourage each person to experience exceptional orchestral performances. At the Hocus Focus Pops event, there is the opportunity to witness quintessential top-class sounds of classical music for free.
The Hocus Focus Pops is a terrific occasion for kids and adults to costume up and enjoy a spooktacular Halloween. A great event that children and adults a like can enjoy, have fun and listen to the most beautiful orchestra in the State. Accompanied by world-class music, an epic Halloween inspired evening is in store.
